When the Answer Seems Delayed

“Men ought always to pray, and not to faint.” — Luke 18:1

REFLECTION

Sometimes the hardest part of prayer is not asking—it is waiting. We pray, believing God hears us, yet days become weeks and sometimes weeks become months. Nothing seems to change. Heaven can appear silent.

But silence does not mean absence. Delay does not mean denial. One of the great disciplines of prayer is learning to trust what God is doing when we cannot yet see what God is doing.

Jesus told His disciples that they “ought always to pray, and not to faint.” Persistent prayer is not pretending that waiting is easy. It is choosing to remain in conversation with God when we do not understand His timing.

PAUSE & PONDER

Where are you most tempted to interpret God’s delay as God’s absence?

PRAYER

Lord, when Your answer seems delayed, keep me from mistaking Your silence for Your absence. Teach me to trust You when I cannot see what You are doing. Give me faith to keep asking, keep seeking, and keep praying without giving up. Amen.
