When God Seems Silent

“My God, my God, why have You forsaken me? Why are You so far from saving me, so far from my cries of anguish?”‍ ‍— Psalm 22:1

REFLECTION

There are seasons when God seems silent. We pray, but no answer comes. We search for direction, but the way remains unclear. We ask God to intervene, yet nothing appears to change. In those moments, silence can feel like absence.

But God’s silence is not God’s absence. Psalm 22 begins with a cry of abandonment, yet the psalmist continues to pray. He remembers who God is, recalls His faithfulness, and refuses to let silence have the final word.

Faith does not require us to pretend that the silence does not hurt. It invites us to keep talking to God in the silence. The God who seems silent is still present, still listening, and still at work beyond what we can see.

PRAYER

Lord, when You seem silent, help me to trust that You are still near. Give me faith to keep praying when I cannot see what You are doing. Remind me of Your faithfulness, and teach me to rest in Your presence while I wait. Amen.

JOURNAL PROMPT

Where in my life does God seem silent right now, and what would it look like for me to keep trusting Him while I wait?
