Be Still

“Be still, and know that I am God...”
— Psalm 46:10 (KJV)

REFLECTION

There are moments when the hardest thing to do in prayer is nothing at all.

We want to speak. We want to explain. We want to tell God what needs to happen and how quickly it needs to happen. But sometimes God invites us simply to become still.

“Be still, and know that I am God.”

Stillness is not inactivity. It is the deliberate surrender of our need to control what only God can control.

To be still is to stop striving long enough to remember who God is. He is God when the answer comes quickly. He is God when the answer is delayed. He is God when circumstances make sense, and He is still God when they do not.

Sometimes persistent prayer means crying out. Sometimes it means wrestling. Sometimes it means waiting.

And sometimes persistence looks like sitting quietly in the presence of God and refusing to leave.

You do not always need more words.

Be still.

God is here.

PRAYER

Lord, quiet my heart in Your presence. I bring You my questions, my concerns, and all the things I am tempted to control. Teach me to be still—not because nothing is happening, but because I know that You are God. When I do not understand what You are doing, help me trust who You are. Silence the noise within me long enough for me to rest in Your presence. I do not always need an answer; sometimes I simply need You. Teach me to be still and know that You are God. Amen.

JOURNAL PROMPT

What noise, concern, or need to control is making it difficult for you to be still before God? What would it look like today to stop striving and simply rest in His presence?
