Give Thanks Before Anything Changes
“In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.”
— 1 Thessalonians 5:18 (KJV)
REFLECTION
Yes. The Scripture is now correct and cleanly placed. Genesis 5:24 gives us exactly the foundation we need.
Now replace the old Day 14 reflection with this:
REFLECTION
Yes—that Scripture is now correct: John 15:7 (KJV), and it fits Pray the Word very well.
I also see the body below it is still carrying material from “Walk With God.” So now we replace the Reflection.
For Day 16, I would begin this way:
REFLECTION
It is easy to give thanks after the answer comes.
When the door opens, the burden lifts, the healing comes, or the problem is resolved, gratitude seems natural. We can look back and say, “God has been good.”
But Paul says, “In every thing give thanks.” That means thanksgiving is not reserved for the other side of the answer.
There is a kind of gratitude that looks backward and thanks God for what He has done. But there is also a gratitude that looks forward and trusts God for what He has not yet done.
That kind of thanksgiving is an act of faith.
It does not pretend that everything is good. It declares that God is good even when everything has not yet changed.
We see this spirit in Jesus. Before Lazarus walked out of the tomb, Jesus prayed, “Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me” (John 11:41). The stone had been removed, but Lazarus was still in the grave. Yet Jesus gave thanks before the miracle became visible.
Perhaps some of our deepest prayers should include thanksgiving before we see the answer.
Thank God while you are still waiting. Thank Him while the door is still closed. Thank Him while the situation remains unresolved. Not because you know exactly what He will do, but because you know who He is.
Faith can give thanks before anything changes because faith knows God is already at work.
PRAYER
Lord, teach me to give thanks not only after You answer, but while I am still waiting. When I cannot see what You are doing, help me trust who You are. Keep me from allowing unanswered questions to silence my gratitude. You have been faithful before, and You are faithful now. Today I choose to thank You—not because everything has changed, but because You have not changed. Amen.
