Pray the Word
“If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.”
— John 15:7 (KJV)
REFLECTION
Yes. The Scripture is now correct and cleanly placed. Genesis 5:24 gives us exactly the foundation we need.
Now replace the old Day 14 reflection with this:
REFLECTION
Yes—that Scripture is now correct: John 15:7 (KJV), and it fits Pray the Word very well.
I also see the body below it is still carrying material from “Walk With God.” So now we replace the Reflection.
For Day 16, I would begin this way:
REFLECTION
Prayer does not begin with our words. It begins with God’s Word.
Jesus connects prayer with abiding: “If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you…” Before He speaks of asking, He speaks of His words living within us.
This changes the way we pray.
When Scripture fills the heart, it begins to shape the prayers that rise from the heart. We begin to ask according to God’s promises, His purposes, and His will rather than simply according to our impulses and desires.
Praying the Word means allowing Scripture to give language to our prayers. A promise becomes a petition. A command becomes a prayer for strength to obey. A warning becomes a prayer for protection. A passage of praise becomes our worship. Even the prayers recorded in Scripture can become our own.
We are not merely reading the Word to hear from God; we are praying the Word back to God.
And something begins to happen: the Word that shapes our prayers also begins to shape us.
PRAYER
Lord, thank You for giving me Your Word. Teach me not only to read it, but to pray it. Let Your promises give language to my hopes, Your commands shape my choices, Your warnings guard my steps, and Your truth correct my desires. As Your Word abides in me, teach me to pray according to Your heart and Your will. May the words I pray increasingly reflect the Word You have spoken. And as I pray Your Word, use it to shape me into the person You desire me to become. Amen.
