Come Just as You Are
“Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.” —Hebrews 4:16 (KJV)
REFLECTION
There are moments when we hesitate to pray because we do not feel ready to approach God. We may feel ashamed, disappointed in ourselves, spiritually weak, or painfully aware of how far we have fallen short. We tell ourselves that we need to get things together before coming to God.
But Hebrews gives us a very different invitation: “Come boldly.”
God does not invite us to His throne because we have earned the right to be there. We come because Jesus has opened the way. And notice what awaits us there—not condemnation, but mercy and grace. Mercy for what has already happened. Grace for what we need right now.
Prayer is not where we go after we have cleaned ourselves up. Prayer is where we bring our need, our weakness, our confusion, and even our failure into the presence of the One who can help us.
You do not have to pretend with God. You do not have to find the perfect words. You do not have to become worthy before you pray.
Come just as you are.
PRAYER
Lord, I come to You just as I am. I bring You my failures, my fears, my questions, and my needs. Thank You that I do not have to make myself worthy before I come. Because of Jesus, I can approach Your throne with confidence. Give me the mercy I need for yesterday and the grace I need for today. Teach me to run toward You rather than away from You when I am weak. Amen.
