God Wants to Hear From You
“Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.”
— Jeremiah 33:3 (NKJV)
REFLECTION
There is something remarkable about Jeremiah 33:3. God does not merely permit us to pray. He invites us to pray: “Call to Me.”
Prayer begins with God’s invitation. Before we ever think about reaching toward heaven, God has already reached toward us. He wants us to call. He wants us to come. He wants us to speak with Him.
Sometimes we approach prayer as though we are interrupting God or trying to persuade Him to pay attention. But Scripture presents a very different picture. God says, “Call to Me, and I will answer you.”
That does not mean God will always answer in the way we expect. His answer may be yes. It may be no. It may be wait. And sometimes His answer may lead us somewhere we never imagined. But prayer rests on this assurance: God hears.
Notice also what God promises: “I will…show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.” Prayer is not merely bringing what we know to God. It is opening ourselves to what God knows that we do not.
Perhaps that is one reason we need prayer so desperately. Our vision is limited. We see the present moment; God sees the whole road. We see the problem; God sees possibilities we cannot yet imagine.
So pray today because God has invited you.
Call to Him. He wants to hear from you.
PRAYER
Lord, thank You for inviting me to call to You. Sometimes I forget that prayer begins with Your desire to hear from me. Help me to come to You freely, honestly, and expectantly. When I cannot see what You are doing, remind me that You see what I cannot see and know what I do not know. Open my heart to Your wisdom and Your direction. Thank You for hearing me when I call. Amen.
JOURNAL PROMPT
If God is inviting me to call to Him today, what do I most need to talk with Him about? What might He know or see that I cannot yet see?
